Kacey Ma, our fearless copywriter, is always putting words in our mouth. Here's your chance to learn more about the woman behind the mighty pen (or keyboard).
We asked Kacey 20 random questions, and she managed to answer them all in just over 500 words.
1. Do you have any cool or "hidden" talents?
I can bake a mean loaf of bread. Actually, that's not true. It's usually pretty friendly.
2. Do you have or wish you had a catch phrase?
I totally wish I had one. Maybe a word that falls between "Bazinga!" and "Shiny" on the sci-fi spectrum. If I look back on my texts though, I think most of my friends would agree it's "Ack." Because my life is basically a Cathy cartoon.
3. What is the color of your car?
My 2001 Jeep Wrangler is Patriot Blue with more chrome and bumper magnets than any respectable Jeep owner should have. But I'm not a respectable Jeep owner.
4. At the beach: sand or water?
Sand. I swim like a Maytag refrigerator.
5. What do you think is your very best feature or characteristic?
My ability to laugh at myself. I'm interminably awkward, so I've had lots of practice.
6. What is your favorite home cooked meal?
Apple Pie. This one. And yes, mom, it's totally a meal. Because fruit.
7. Do you prefer to wear pants or dresses?
I'm just as comfortable in a pair of copiously patched blue jean overalls as I am in heels and a little black dress.
8. Do you have pets?
I have children?
9. When was the last time you visited a park and what did you do while there?
Yesterday. I ran and did not perish in the process. Bonus.
10. What age do you consider old?
When I no longer learn anything new, that is the age I will feel old. Until then, I'm as young as I'll ever be. My grandmother is 99 and she's still lighting up rooms and meeting new best friends.
11. Were you named after anyone?
Yes. My mom was working as a dental assistant while pregnant with me, and someone signed in with my name and spelling. So... I'm named after someone with decent oral hygiene.
12. What do you most like to do in the snow?
SLED. I do it as often as I can. The saucer sleds are the best.
13. Have you ever colored your hair?
I once did a salon photo shoot and let the stylist do whatever she felt like. I ended up a purply-pink rockstar and I. Loved. It.
14. What do you do when something funny happens?
Guffaw. Chortle. Snort with abandon. Side note: I never use acronyms in text messages. You'll never get an "LOL" from me. It's not specific enough. I basically have my own reactionary language based in onomatopoeia.
15. Do you save trinkets and mementos?
Despite being ridiculously sentimental, I don't keep a lot of keepsakes.
16. Do you mow the lawn?
Mowing and trimming and weeding and landscaping and gardening are kinda my jam.
17. Have you ever been in a musical drama or play? If so, what was it?
I was Annie my senior year of high school at Gehlen Catholic in LeMars.
18. Are you old-fashioned?
I have a drawer full of vintage aprons that I wear (and sometimes forget to take off). I'd rather repair things myself than pay someone to do it. I love swinging on tire swings. I love hosting neighborhood potlucks and making homemade bread. My 1950's house is full of mid-century modern furniture and pieces with a few miles on them. So... yeah.
19. What's on your 2017 bucket list?
Get more comfortable playing guitar (I just started lessons). Find more words. Sing more songs. Keep learning Spanish. Keep playing Gaelic football. Get another tattoo. Rent an RV with the kids. Travel to Seattle to see family and some proper fog. Be braver, live wider, love bigger, and keep challenging conventions (especially my own). Oh, and finish this blog.
20. Do you have a favorite quote?
Too many to count. I collect them like conch shells and pull them out at random and hold them to my ear to hear what secrets resonate. But here's a Mary Oliver one I'm in love with at the moment. It's from her poem, The Summer Day.
