Social Media Predictions for 2014

What will happening in 2014 in social media? Will agencies like Chatterkick still be relevant? My answer to that, more than ever! Here are my top 3 predictions as we ring in the new year. Cheers friends!

1. The word "social media" will continue to become over used. We are guilty as ever of using the word social media to describe everything online. Whatever you call it, I think social media will describe more and more versions of marketing and the word "social media" will mean any form of media that has a two-way communication strategy.

2. Video finally becomes mainstream. Youtube isn't anything new and businesses have been using platforms similar to these for capturing and creating an audience for years, but I agree with other experts out there that 2014 will be the year for video. As platforms like Instagram and Vine grow up, we will see more and more businesses using videos to tell their story and establish thought leadership for their brands.

3. The social gap for small businesses widens. Many businesses, specifically smaller businesses, are just figuring out what and how to post on social media. As platforms such as Facebook & Twitter continue to push their revenue streams, businesses now need to figure out how to advertise on social media. This means spending more money or hiring someone to handle this task. For many, this is not easy. Each platform has it's own advertising interface and oftentimes it can be confusing and not user-friendly. The ones who figure it out will thrive and the others will see their competitors surpass their efforts.
